Rajalingam
The Supreme Form of Shiva

Rajalingam, as the highest form of Shiva, is a symbol that transcends ordinary bodily and formal definitions. It is not merely a physical shape – it is a reflection of infinity, of the divine principle, the source of the universe, and the energy of creation itself. Often envisioned as a cylindrical or oval form, the Lingam symbolizes both Shiva’s creative power and his eternal presence – the realm of infinity and oneness.

Rajalingam” in Sanskrit means “royal lingam” – the supreme and most exalted form, which not only contains Shiva’s energy but also governs it. It is a powerful emblem that represents everything: creation, destruction, and transformation. It is not based on physical attributes or material aspects, for Shiva as Rajalingam is beyond form, without beginning or end.

Rajalingam is intimately tied to the highest cosmic principle – it is the “seed” of the universe, both the beginning and the end. It is not only a personal symbol associated with individual spiritual liberation, but also a reflection of the universal laws. Through the Lingam, one can receive and comprehend Shiva’s all-encompassing energy, which not only creates, but sustains everything that exists.

In our practice, to behold the Rajalingam is to shed limiting beliefs about the world and to embrace a higher spiritual reality. Worship and meditation upon Rajalingam help us transcend the illusions of material existence and touch the supreme consciousness and harmony. It is Shiva’s presence, inviting us to know ourselves as divine beings, woven into the great dance of the cosmos.

Rajalingam is not just an object or an image. It is a symbol of Being – a reminder of our true nature and our connection to the Divine. It is an invitation to look beyond form and to realize what truly is: the eternal and ever-changing divine energy that dwells both within us and throughout the world.
